In a spectacular display of community participation, Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road turned into a vibrant sea of orange as 226,000 runners of various ages (and one Project Management Nerd) joined the iconic Dubai Run on November 26. Led by Dubai’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the event is touted as the world’s largest free fun run. Participants gathered as early as 3:30 am for the 6:30 am run, which included a 5km flat route and a challenging 10km route crossing the Dubai Canal bridge. Families, friends, and colleagues enjoyed the non-competitive atmosphere, with even children as young as one joining in the fun. The event, part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, fostered a strong sense of community, with Sheikh Hamdan expressing gratitude to the participants.
Riyadh to Host Expo 2030
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has won the bid to host the Expo 2030 World Fair, beating out competitors Busan in South Korea and Rome in Italy, according to the Bureau International des Expositions vote results. The prestigious event, held every five years, attracts millions of visitors and significant investment. Riyadh’s successful campaign, featuring a “Riyadh 2030” exhibit in Paris and support from French President Emmanuel Macron, aims to diversify the kingdom’s economy and enhance its international standing.

In anticipation of hosting COP28 in Dubai, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasised the need for collective action in addressing global challenges. Scheduled from November 30 to December 12 at Expo City Dubai, the UN Climate Change Conference will be a crucial platform for climate action. The family behind the Las Vegas Sands casino empire, including Miriam Adelson, has reached a deal to acquire a majority stake in the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks from billionaire Mark Cuban. The binding purchase agreement, subject to NBA Board of Governors approval, is expected to close by the year’s end. While the terms were not disclosed, reports suggest the transaction values the Mavericks at around $3.5 billion. Miriam Adelson, widow of Sheldon Adelson, holds a fortune estimated at $33 billion. Cuban will retain partial ownership of the franchise and continue to oversee basketball operations, as indicated in the statement released by the Adelson and Dumont families.
