Sprint planning is the precursor to the sprint. It is an important step as it determines the goals and what work can be achieved in the sprint. It also outlines what can be achieved.

In scrum the sprint is a set of periods of time where all the work is done. Time frames may vary depending on the team however 2-4 weeks are the most likely timeframes. First identified by Takeuchi & Nonaka in 1986 a scrum is a rugby term that can be used in the context of Agile. It emphasises teamwork with progress in incremental steps and was originally considered for software development projects.
It is primarily focused on complex projects that require goals to be broken up into shorter iterative time frames called sprints. The focus on teamwork means fellow team members will jump in and remove any bottlenecks that may be slowing down a fellow teammate. In this blog I look at 10 key elements that every Project Manager should be aware of. Irrespective of size or complexity.
The following ten elements should be considered by a project manager irrespective of the size of the project. It is the level of detail that goes into each element that will correlate with the size and complexity of the project.
Element 1 – Planning and Scoping
A key component of any project is the completion of a project scope. Having a clear project scope assists with the effective management and expectations of stakeholders. It ensures that the deliverables are aligned with the project objectives and improves the chances of project success.
Included in the project scope statement should be detail on the project outcomes, customers, outputs, work and resources.
Scoping establishes the boundaries of a project and is suggested for all projects within an organisation. The scope of a project represents the deliverables that are required in order for the project to be completed. It establishes what can be done within the constraints of the project, specifically its time and cost.
A project will usually change through its life cycle. It is with the benefit of planning that the amount of change and therefore its risk can be reduced. Project risk can never be removed completely however with through planning it can be reduced significantly.
In 2001 a group of seventeen software developers came together to publish the agile manifesto. This presented a range of values to uncover ways to improve software development. The values were:
Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
Working software over comprehensive documentation
Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
Responding to change over following a plan.
The manifesto also incorporated twelve principles that were very focused on the timely efficient and adaptability of software development.
It is interesting to note that Scrum, Kanban, Extreme Programming and Dynamic Systems Development Method were all documented before the manifesto was formed. However, all of these methodologies are now known as agile software development methods.
The world has witnessed its fair share of project failures in the ever-evolving landscape of innovation and ambition. These grand endeavors, often pursued with the utmost determination, have sometimes crumbled in the face of unforeseen challenges.
Let’s embark on a journey to explore the stories of these failures. From the iconic Sydney Opera House, a modern architectural masterpiece fraught with budget overruns and structural challenges, to the Betamax, Sony’s once-revolutionary but ultimately defeated video format. And then, consider the bold decision by Coca-Cola to change its sacred recipe.
These projects have left an indelible mark in the annals of history. Join us as we delve into the riveting tales of these and more, examining the lessons they impart in the volatile world of innovation, ambition, and, sometimes, spectacular project failure.
1. Sydney Opera House
the Sydney Opera House is one of the icon architecture pieces in the world however it also one of the biggest project failures in history.
In project management there are three significant constraints to any project that need to be considered. They are the triple constraints of time or scheduling, the cost of the project and the scope. The time and cost constraints are self-explanatory, however what is meant by the scope of a project are the deliverables required to make the project come to life. Essentially it provides the vision for the project. What is important to remember is that changes in one constraint will have a ripple effect on one or both of the other constraints.
Unfortunately, in the case of the Sydney Opera House there was no defined scope. No clear deliverables in place led to a massive blow out in both time and cost. In fact the cost of the project ended up being 15 times more than was originally budgeted and took 10 years longer. It serves as one of history’s greatest project failures.
As business has developed over the years so has the management theory underpinning it. The classic definition of management as an activity is held by Henri Fayol, “To manage is to forecast and plan, to organise, to command, to coordinate and to control”.
Management Theory has evolved from being viewed in isolation where a mangers social responsibility solely relied on increasing profits, to a more modern view of how a decision will affect others.
The modern manager asks themselves what the flow on effect of decisions will be and will it be viewed by stakeholders in a positive or negative way. The effect of evolving managing theories has had the consequence of closing the gulf between the business and the ethical world.
A key challenge for modern management theory is to reform economic thinking so that it can include ethical challenges. It can be argued that the work of Milton Friedman, Michael Jenson, Michael Porter and Oliver Williamson all added important building blocks to the development of stakeholder theory.
There are four pivotal management theories that need to be explored further in order to gain a better understanding of the evolution of management theory.
Success Equals Profit maximisation
Milton Friedman was an American economist who received the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 1976. He is most well-known for his work with the Chicago school of Economics and his rejection of Keynesianism in favour of monetarism.
Friedman posited that the purpose of business is to “use its resources and engage in activities designed to increase its profits so long as it stays within the rules of the game, which is to say, engages in open and free competition, without deception or fraud”.

The NSW Building Commission, established in December 2023 to address substandard development work, is grappling with a crisis in new builds as over 53% of apartments registered in the state since 2016 have exhibited serious defects, according to a government strata survey.
Despite a decline in reports of serious defects year on year since 2017, concerns persist, leading the commission to develop a heat map identifying high-risk areas in residential construction.
The commission’s proactive approach aims to address issues at the forefront rather than reactively. The industry’s problems, identified in the Building Confidence report of 2018, highlight systemic issues nationwide, with NSW taking significant steps to address them, including legislation granting the watchdog increased powers to intervene during construction.

Azizi Start Work on Second Tallest Tower

Azizi Developments has commenced the construction of the second tallest tower in Dubai, with an estimated value of $1.5 billion.
The tower, set for completion by 2028, will be located opposite the World Trade Centre on Sheikh Zayed Road and feature a vertical mall, luxury residences, penthouses, a 7-star hotel, an observation deck, high-end restaurants, and other amenities.
Mirwais Azizi, founder and chairman of Azizi Developments, emphasised the project as a legacy and a way of giving back to Dubai, aiming to surpass Marina 101 and Franck Muller Aeternitas Tower to become the second tallest in the city after the Burj Khalifa.
The Omani government plans to advance 11 significant projects and initiatives under its strategic Public-Private Partnership (PPP) program in 2024, as outlined in the 2024 State Budget.
Spanning various sectors, including transport, health, education, agriculture, fisheries, construction, and information technology, notable initiatives include the Salalah – Thamrait Truck Road project, a private-led investment in a road project linking Al Maabela with Thamid, the management, operation, and development of diagnostic centres in Muscat, and private involvement in the Liwa and Sur fishery harbours.
The Ministry of Finance aims to enhance private sector participation in infrastructure projects to preserve economic resources and public utilities.
In a contentious legal battle, two Indian restaurant chains, Moti Mahal and Daryaganj, are disputing the origins of butter chicken, a globally renowned Indian dish. Moti Mahal, a Delhi restaurant, claims that its founder, Kundan Lal Gujral, invented the curry in the 1930s in Peshawar before the restaurant moved to Delhi. The family is seeking $240,000 in damages, accusing rival chain Daryaganj, established in 2019, of falsely claiming to have originated the dish and a popular lentil dish, dal makhani. Daryaganj argues that a partnership document from 1949 supports its claim that the dish was invented in their Delhi restaurant in collaboration with Gujral. The dispute has captivated the nation, with TV segments and social media debates delving into the history of the iconic dish. dishes.”
Despite facing criminal liability, Donald Trump is rapidly securing his third consecutive Republican nomination, winning both the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary, becoming the first non-incumbent Republican in modern times to achieve this. Trump’s victories, driven by leveraging legal problems to portray political persecution, highlight his unique political position and ability to maintain a hold on the GOP. While former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley remains Trump’s sole GOP rival, her decision to continue the race irked the former president, who publicly criticised her and urged increased attacks from his political aides.

To alleviate congestion in Shanghai while preserving a historic structure, Chinese engineers successfully relocated the 85-year-old Lagena Elementary School, covering 390,000 square meters, in just 18 days.
The T-shaped, five-storey building was moved using state-of-the-art “walking machine” technology, employing nearly 200 mobile supports that mimic human feet.
Lan Wuji, the chief technical supervisor, explained that these supports function like robotic legs, alternating between rising and falling to simulate human strides.
The building was rotated 21 degrees and shifted 62 meters to make way for a commercial office complex.
Deleware Viaduct Nears Completion
At 85 miles long, the tunnel is the longest in the world
The Delaware Aqueduct, vital since 1944, provides over 50% of New York City’s daily water needs.
The groundbreaking Bypass Tunnel project, the most significant in the city’s water supply system’s history, aims to replace a leaking section of the 85-mile-long aqueduct.
Initiated in 2013, the project involved constructing two deep rock shafts, each exceeding 700 feet in depth.
Expected to conclude in October 2024, this transformative project ensures a sustainable water supply for New York City.

CGGC Breaks Ground on $6.8 Billion Housing Project
Kuwait will invest $6.8 million into the project
China Gezhouba Group Company (CGGC) has commenced construction on the South Saad Al Abdullah City Housing Project in the Jahra Governorate of Kuwait, situated approximately 25 km west of the capital.
Once completed, the project will address the housing needs of over 150,000 residents.
Under the contract, CGGC will undertake earthworks excavation, construct more than 150km of new roads and bridges, and lay 975km of pipelines.
With a total investment of $6.8 billion, phased over state budgets, the groundbreaking ceremony was attended by key Chinese and Kuwaiti officials.
The stadium will be a global destination for sports, entertainment and culture.
Qiddiya Investment Company (QIC) has introduced the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium in Qiddiya City, positioned on the 200m-high Tuwaiq cliff, 40 minutes from Riyadh.
Envisioned as a must-visit destination, the stadium, designed by Populous, is hailed as the world’s first fully integrated venue with a retractable roof, pitch, and LED wall.
QIC Managing Director Abdullah bin Nasser Aldawood envisions the stadium as a global hub for entertainment, sports, and culture, embodying the Power of Play philosophy at the heart of Qiddiya City.
The European head of Japanese tech company Fujitsu, Peter Patterson, asserted a “moral obligation” to compensate victims of the UK’s Post Office scandal, where individuals running government-owned branches were falsely accused of theft and fraud due to glitches in Fujitsu’s Horizon IT system. Between 1999 and 2015, over 700 sub-postmasters were convicted of criminal offences, leading to prison sentences, bankruptcies, and some taking their own lives. Patterson expressed Fujitsu’s sincere apologies for system errors and pledged to contribute to a redress fund for victims. A public inquiry is underway to determine responsibility for the scandal, with Patterson anticipating discussions with the government on compensation following its conclusion.

Following extensive talks, the agreement emphasises a just, orderly, and equitable transition away from fossil fuels in energy systems, aiming to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
The proposal also advocates accelerating efforts to phase down unabated coal power, tripling global renewable energy capacity and doubling the rate of energy efficiency improvements by 2030.
While not mandating an absolute phase-out of hydrocarbons, the agreement signifies a crucial step toward addressing climate change, with reactions ranging from positive acknowledgment to disappointment over the absence of a complete fossil fuel phase-out commitment.
Fontainebleau Las Vegas, a $3.7-billion resort, has officially opened on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip after 23 years of development. The 3,644-room resort, affiliated with the iconic Fontainebleau Miami Beach, marks the first new resort on the Strip since 2021.
The resort features the luxurious Fontainebleau Fleur de Lis suites on the top five floors, offering unique amenities and design nods to the original Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

NEOM Introduces New Food Company
Neom will not only change the way we live but also how we eat
NEOM, the sustainable development project in Saudi Arabia, has launched ‘Topian,’ the NEOM Food Company, aiming to revolutionise food production, distribution, and consumption across five verticals: climate-proof agriculture, regenerative aquaculture, novel foods, personalized nutrition, and sustainable food supply.
Envisioned as a purpose-driven organization fostering innovation, Topian’s ‘Future to Table’ concept aims to transform the global food system, addressing challenges arising from population growth, changing consumption patterns, climate change, and resource depletion.
Dubai-based sustainable city developer URB has unveiled plans for “Dubai Reefs,” touted as the world’s largest ocean restoration project.
The development includes a marine institute dedicated to ocean research and education programs on marine conservation. URB aims for the site to run on 100% renewable energy from solar, hydropower, and wave farms, with seaweed and oyster farms providing food.
While the project’s completion is targeted for 2040, URB acknowledges funding challenges and strives for accessibility across income levels, aiming to set a blueprint for marine conservation, ecotourism, and sustainable ocean living.
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been indicted on charges of leaking state secrets, accused of making public a classified cable sent from Pakistan’s ambassador in the US. The charges, related to a cable received last year, could lead to a 14-year prison sentence or even death if Khan is found guilty under the Official Secrets Act. This marks the second indictment on the same charges after a prior one was struck down on technical grounds. Khan claims the cable revealed a conspiracy by the Pakistan military and the US government to topple his government in 2022 after he visited Moscow, a charge denied by both Washington and the Pakistan military. Despite being disqualified from contesting elections due to a graft conviction, Khan’s legal team seeks his release on bail, but the new indictment may hinder his chances.
The US House of Representatives, with a 221-212 vote along party lines, has officially sanctioned the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, led by Republicans who allege impropriety related to his son Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings. The White House dismissed the probe as politically motivated and lacking factual basis. Despite lacking evidence of wrongdoing, Republicans aim to scrutinize allegations of corruption throughout the 2024 campaign. President Biden criticizes the Republicans for prioritizing baseless attacks over addressing urgent domestic and international matters.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 50th goal of the calendar year in Al Nassr’s 5-2 victory over Al Shabab, securing a spot in the Saudi King Cup semifinals.
Ronaldo’s powerful strike in the 74th minute contributed to his impressive goal tally since joining Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr in January. Despite Al Shabab’s early penalty miss, Seko Fofana gave them the lead, countered by Carlos Júnior’s header and goals from Sadio Mané and Abdulrahman Ghareeb for Al Nassr.
Ronaldo added a fourth goal, while Al Shabab scored in the final moments. The result marked Al Nassr’s advancement to the semifinals, and Ronaldo expressed gratitude for the support on Instagram.

There is a lot happening in Dubai this week, including COP28 and the Big 5 Global Construction Conference. We have issued our newsletter a day early this week so that the PM Nerd can attend both events!

COP28 President Sultan Al Jaber revealed that within the conference’s first four days in Dubai, a remarkable $57 billion has been mobilized, signifying a transformative phase in climate action.
The rapid adoption of the agenda on the first day, accompanied by groundbreaking agreements and declarations, reflects a newfound momentum and shared determination to address the urgent challenges of climate change.
The iconic Paris Métro, celebrated for its art nouveau entrances and historical significance, faces challenges coping with modern commuting demands and an aging infrastructure.
However, a transformative upgrade is underway with the introduction of the Grand Paris Express, a 200-kilometre system set to add four lines and 68 stations, primarily connecting suburban towns.
Representing Europe’s largest civilian infrastructure project, construction began in 2016, and the first train recently underwent a successful test run.
The anticipated completion in 2025 promises increased network capacity and improved accessibility for residents and visitors alike, contributing to the timeless allure of the City of Light.

Riyadh Committing $92 Billion for City Transformation
Millions of visitors are expected to visit Riyadh for Expo 2030
Saudi officials have revealed plans to invest $92 billion to transform Riyadh into one of the most sustainable cities by 2030 in preparation for Expo 2030.
The initiatives, including the King Salman Park Initiative and Saudi Green Initiative (SGI), aim to enhance sustainability and decarbonize urban transport within the next seven years. Princess Haifa bint Mohammed Al Saud, Vice Minister of Tourism, discussed the importance of green spaces, emphasizing the development of the King Salman Park Initiative in the city centre.
The SGI has already led to the planting of over 43 million trees and shrubs and the rehabilitation of 94,000 hectares of degraded land across Saudi Arabia.
Time magazine has chosen Taylor Swift as its Person of the Year for 2023, breaking from its tradition of recognizing political leaders. The publication cited Swift as a “source of light” in a “divided world,” noting her ability to transcend borders and move people globally. This unconventional choice marks a departure from the magazine’s history of honoring political figures. Swift’s recognition comes after a successful year, with her Eras Tour drawing massive crowds and her concert movie breaking records at the US box office. The decision to honor Swift was made over other finalists, including Vladimir Putin, King Charles III, and Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. A missing 15th-century masterpiece by Sandro Botticelli, depicting the Virgin Mary and infant Christ, has been discovered in a home in Gragnano, near Naples, after being recorded as missing since the 1980s. The painting, commissioned for the Roman Catholic Church in 1470, is estimated to be worth at least €100 million ($109 million). Originally housed in a Neapolitan church, it was given to a local family for safekeeping in 1982 after an earthquake damaged the church. Although the family held the painting with an official decree, checks ceased in the 1990s, leading to its listing on the culture ministry’s inventory of missing works.

Despite a recent three-match winless streak, Pep Guardiola remains confident in Manchester City’s ability to secure an unprecedented fourth successive Premier League title.

226,000 Runners Join Dubai Fun Run
The event was the highlight of the Dubai Fitness Challenge
In a spectacular display of community participation, Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road turned into a vibrant sea of orange as 226,000 runners of various ages (and one Project Management Nerd) joined the iconic Dubai Run on November 26.
Led by Dubai’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the event is touted as the world’s largest free fun run.
Participants gathered as early as 3:30 am for the 6:30 am run, which included a 5km flat route and a challenging 10km route crossing the Dubai Canal bridge. Families, friends, and colleagues enjoyed the non-competitive atmosphere, with even children as young as one joining in the fun.
The event, part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, fostered a strong sense of community, with Sheikh Hamdan expressing gratitude to the participants.
Millions of visitors are expected to visit Riyadh for Expo 2030
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has won the bid to host the Expo 2030 World Fair, beating out competitors Busan in South Korea and Rome in Italy, according to the Bureau International des Expositions vote results.
The prestigious event, held every five years, attracts millions of visitors and significant investment.
Riyadh’s successful campaign, featuring a “Riyadh 2030” exhibit in Paris and support from French President Emmanuel Macron, aims to diversify the kingdom’s economy and enhance its international standing.
According to a statement from Berkshire Hathaway, Charlie Munger, the 99-year-old billionaire investor and long-time business partner of Warren Buffett, has passed away. Born in 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska, Munger served in the US Army during World War II before attending Harvard Law School. CEO Warren Buffett highlighted his significant contributions to Berkshire Hathaway, who stated that the firm’s present status couldn’t have been achieved without Munger’s inspiration and wisdom. Munger, worth $2.7 billion, continued to comment on global markets until recently, and his impact extended beyond investing. Known for his pithy remarks, Munger and Buffett formed a legendary partnership that greatly influenced the investing world.
In anticipation of hosting COP28 in Dubai, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasised the need for collective action in addressing global challenges. Scheduled from November 30 to December 12 at Expo City Dubai, the UN Climate Change Conference will be a crucial platform for climate action. Sheikh Mohamed expressed the UAE’s determination to unite the world in tackling climate issues, stating that the country is honoured to host the international community for the start of COP28.
Cuban will make an incredible profit from the sale
The family behind the Las Vegas Sands casino empire, including Miriam Adelson, has reached a deal to acquire a majority stake in the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks from billionaire Mark Cuban.
The binding purchase agreement, subject to NBA Board of Governors approval, is expected to close by the year’s end.
While the terms were not disclosed, reports suggest the transaction values the Mavericks at around $3.5 billion. Miriam Adelson, widow of Sheldon Adelson, holds a fortune estimated at $33 billion.
Cuban will retain partial ownership of the franchise and continue to oversee basketball operations, as indicated in the statement released by the Adelson and Dumont families.

Dubai will be at the global centre of sustainability thinking
The iconic falcon wing-shaped UAE Pavilion from Expo 2020 Dubai has been transformed into the UAE House of Sustainability.
Open to visitors from December 3 to 12 in the Green Zone, the space aligns with the COP28 climate change conference hosted by Expo City Dubai. Offering a multi-sensory experience, it highlights the UAE’s journey toward a net-zero future.
Divided into three areas—Sustainability Oasis, Our Journey of Collective Progress, and Our Future of Sustainable Flourishing—the space will host public activations, including PopCOP sessions with immersive climate action workshops.
Designed by Santiago Calatrava, the pavilion, inspired by the falcon, features 28 carbon fiber wings, solar panels, and interactive installations. The initiative aligns with the UAE’s 2023 Year of Sustainability, encouraging nationwide adoption of sustainable practices.

MENA’s First Green Hydrogen Based Project
CO2 could be cut by 95%
Masdar, a global renewable energy leader, has joined forces with Emirates Steel Arkan, a major publicly traded steel and building materials manufacturer in the region, to initiate a groundbreaking green hydrogen project aimed at decarbonising the UAE’s steel sector.
This pioneering pilot project, the first of its kind in the Middle East and North African region is currently in the installation phase at the Emirates Steel Arkan production facilities in the City of Abu Dhabi.

In further sustainability news, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai is progressing with installing solar panels at the Dubai Metro Depots in Jebel Ali and Al Qusais and the Tram Depot at Al Safouh.
This initiative, slated for completion in the first quarter of 2024, aims to generate 9.959MW of solar power, aligning with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy.
The project supports the RTA’s long-term strategy to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050, focusing on public transportation, buildings, and waste management.
Australian Professor Arnold Dix, a key figure in the rescue operation for 41 workers trapped in a collapsed tunnel in India, described the mission as exceptionally challenging due to the Himalayan region’s geological instability. The collapsed tunnel is on the Char Dham pilgrimage route, part of a major infrastructure project connecting four Hindu pilgrimage sites. The rescue team employs advanced tunnelling equipment to create “doors” to reach the trapped men. Professor Dix praised the local team’s efforts and highlighted the risks of drilling through unstable terrain. The trapped workers, who have essential supplies delivered through a narrow pipe, are expected to be rescued soon, but the operation faces uncertainties. The collapse has prompted a safety audit of 29 tunnels under construction in India.
On Wednesday, an explosion resulting in the death of two individuals occurred at the US-Canada Rainbow Bridge border crossing, prompting the immediate closure of all four bridges near Niagara Falls. Governor Kathy Hochul stated that there is no indication of terrorism, and though three of the bridges reopened later in the day, the Rainbow Bridge remained closed. The leaders of both the United States and Canada were briefed, and despite initial uncertainties, Erie County Sheriff John Garcia characterised the event as a “tragic accident.” The incident caused travel disruptions on the eve of the US Thanksgiving holiday, briefly halting international flights at Buffalo Niagara International Airport and leading to additional screening warnings for travellers.
Australia secured their sixth Cricket World Cup title with a stunning six-wicket victory over undefeated India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Travis Head played a pivotal role, scoring a match-winning 137 after Australia was reduced to 3-47. Head, who made a crucial diving catch to dismiss India’s captain Rohit Sharma, showcased a matured masterclass despite early threats to his wicket.
Marnus Labuschagne’s support in a 192-run partnership helped stabilise Australia, leading to a historic win.
The unexpected triumph shocked India, who had been dominant throughout the tournament, with Virat Kohli named Player of the Tournament.

Pope Francis to Attend Cop 28
G20 Nations will be asked to show solidarity towards climate action
Pope Francis announced his plan to travel to Dubai for the COP28 climate change conference in early December, underscoring his deep concern for environmental issues during his papacy.
Considered a critical moment in global transformative climate action, COP 28 will capture the World’s attention in December.
Pope Francis emphasised the urgent need for courageous global action to address climate change and its destructive consequences, reiterating his commitment to environmental stewardship, as highlighted in his 2015 encyclical on Earth’s ecological crisis.
Dubai is buzzing with talk of flying taxis and driverless cabs as part of its future transport landscape, but there’s renewed excitement surrounding the Blue Line for Dubai’s Metro.
Originally proposed in 2006 and shelved due to economic challenges, this underground mass transit project is coming back.
The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) is actively searching for contractors to bring the project to life, with approximately 15.5km of the 30m track set to be underground, including five underground stations.
The Blue Line is part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, aiming to enhance public transport access and reduce traffic congestion, emphasising environmental sustainability and green initiatives.
NASA has shared detailed images of Jupiter’s moon, Io, captured by the Juno probe during a recent flyby. The images, processed by citizen scientists using raw Juno data, reveal Io’s volcanic landscape, with hundreds of active volcanoes and lakes of molten silicate lava on its surface. Juno is set to observe Io more closely in December, flying just 1,500 kilometres above its surface. In a separate discovery, the James Webb Space Telescope unveiled a high-speed jet stream spanning over 4,800 kilometres in Jupiter’s atmosphere, providing insights into the planet’s turbulent weather patterns and showcasing the telescope’s capabilities for future observations.
During a recent podcast interview with Joe Rogan, Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared insights about the upcoming Cybertruck, revealing that the automaker aims to produce around 200,000 Cybertrucks per year once production is scaled up. This ambitious target translates to over 16,500 units per month or more than 4,000 Cybertrucks per week. Musk emphasized the challenges of manufacturing, comparing it to the difficulty of design, and noted that ramping up Cybertruck production would take 12 to 18 months. He also expressed his admiration for Henry Ford, acknowledging Ford’s pivotal role in revolutionizing mass manufacturing.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a national public holiday on December 15th to celebrate the Springboks’ victory in Paris in the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
The Springboks secured their fourth Rugby World Cup win by defeating New Zealand 12-11. Ramaphosa praised the team’s achievement as a symbol of hope for the nation, which faces numerous economic challenges and the world’s highest unemployment rate.
